Heaven

Published in 2004, 560 pages, Randy Alcorn.  The ultimate companion to chapters 4 and 5 of Life Beyond Heaven (Ch. 4 “What Lies Beyond Heaven?” and Ch. 5 “Eternity: Your Never-ending Adventure”).

Amazon description: “What will heaven be like? Randy Alcorn presents a thoroughly biblical answer, based on years of careful study, presented in an engaging, reader-friendly style. His conclusions will surprise readers and stretch their thinking about this important subject. Heaven will inspire readers to long for heaven while they’re living on earth.”

From Randy’s website: “Randy invites you to picture Heaven the way Scripture describes it—a bright, vibrant, and physical New Earth, free from sin, suffering, and death, and brimming with Christ’s presence, wondrous natural beauty, and the richness of human culture as God intended it.”

Heaven is the most comprehensive description available of what we can expect to find in eternity by way of activities and environments.  However, exploration of every person’s potential for vital significance in Christ’s eternal Kingdom of Light is minimal.

Strengths: Exhaustive description of what eternity will be like, what we will see and experience there.  Easy-to-read style.  Based on scripture rather than a personal mystical or dream experience.

Limitations: Doesn’t focus much attention on our ultimate eternal significance as shepherds of creation … or on what we can do now to have greater impact in eternity as builders and shepherds of the eternal kingdom of Christ.  Fairly long at 560 pages.

“One thing’s for sure: Earth can’t keep its promises, but aren’t you glad Heaven does? And oh the joy of one day enjoying not only new glorified bodies but hearts free of sin! Randy does an awesome job of answering people’s toughest questions about what lies on the other side of death. Heaven provides a clear and very readable guide to grasping all that the Savior has in store for those who trust in him.”
