Dan has been helping Christians find and live their God-intended purpose since 1995 … though he took an unlikely path to get there. 🙂

During his undergrad years he loved nerdy, bookish stuff, like constitutional law and economics, and his hero was the emotionless Mr. Spock from Star Trek.  (Seriously??  How did he ever find a wife?)

Dan had trouble deciding what he wanted to be when he grew up and spent his first few years out of college as a big-city street cop.  But he didn’t really have the gritty temperament for it and accepted a commission in the U.S. Navy—ultimately rising to the rank of commander.  He eventually moved to the private sector, where he conducted national-defense simulations that integrated real and artificial intelligence … still not someone you’d expect to be writing and speaking about eternity.

His childhood creates a connection that is a bit clearer—as Dan grew up overseas, the son of missionaries (primarily in Vietnam and the Philippines).  Despite his religious upbringing, he left for college an agnostic.  He ultimately came to terms with Christian faith during his university years.  But it wasn’t until close to age forty that he dove in wholeheartedly—largely the result of the spiritual journey he shares in this book.  That journey sparked a strong passion for the grand adventure of eternity and a fierce appreciation of our capacity to shape it now!

Dan has been leading classes in a variety of church settings ever since, from house churches to megachurches.  And he has carried his zeal for a deeply inspiring eternity to a broader audience with published journal articles.

After completing a joint Ph.D.-Th.D. in religious studies and theology in 2015, he retired early from the private sector—to devote more time to the message of our great eternal future and the call to action it fosters.

Dan has discovered the great entertainment value of grandkids thanks to his three daughters.  He also loves Nextflix documentaries, hiking, watching deer out his back window (in semi-rural Texas), and catching up on new alternative rock releases.
